Abstract

Green mussels (Perna viridis) have the ability to accumulate metals from the environment. Green mussels sold in markets around South Tangerang City mostly come from the coast of Tangerang Regency which in these waters is a polluted river estuary. Heavy metals that pollute the sea in Tangerang Regency are lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd), where these metals are dangerous metals if consumed by humans. This study aims to determine the content of heavy metals Pb and Cd in green mussels as well as to determine the knowledge and attitudes of green mussel pond farmers, traders and consumers in markets around South Tangerang City. The results of the study on 16 samples of green mussels in nine markets in South Tangerang City showed that three green mussels were found that exceeded the quality standard for Pb metal, while for Cd metal there were no samples that exceeded the quality standard. The survey of green mussel farmers was conducted on two respondents, the survey results showed that green mussel farmers' knowledge was still lacking about the dangers of green mussels containing heavy metals. Knowledge and attitude surveys were conducted on 16 green mussel traders and 10 consumers. The survey results show that traders have less knowledge while consumers have sufficient knowledge about heavy metals in green mussels. The attitude survey of producers and traders showed poor results while the consumer attitude survey resulted in sufficient knowledge about heavy metals in green mussels.
